Software for Securing and Managing Wireless LANs - Roving Planet’s Commander Suite.

Roving Planet, a provider of software solutions essential for operating wireless LANs, recently announced the availability of Commander™ Suite 3.0, a full-featured, comprehensive Wi-Fi security and management software suite specifically designed for the needs of enterprise level operations.

Roving Planet Commander™ Suite 3.0 Enterprise Edition™ centrally secures, scales, monitors, and manages Wi-Fi networks from multiple vendors. Combining configuration management together with advanced security and visibility options, Commander Suite 3.0 enables the enterprise to set security policies for network resources and access. It also automatically generates correlated reports that show the relationship between security events and network activity. Available as an integrated software suite or as stand-alone modules, Roving Planet Commander Suite 3.0 lets customers create a scalable solution to meet the needs of any sized network.

“Many of our customers have deployed disparate wireless networks and need a highly scalable, superior solution that addresses the need for secure wireless LAN operations,” stated Greg Mesch, President and CEO of Roving Planet. “Roving Planet Commander Suite 3.0 decreases the time and money spent on wireless LAN management by offering enterprise organizations a full suite of solutions with automated features and correlated real-time information.”

Modules available with Roving Planet Commander Suite 3.0 include:

Global Commander™: Suitable for large networks with multiple physical sites. It is a highly distributed solution to gain deep visibility across the network and to share user-based network security policies. Global Commander captures data from multiple Network Commanders and displays this information on a single console to assess the health of the entire global network.

Network Commander™: Roving Planet’s base product allows you to control access to your network, and monitor authentications, and authorizations activities. Network Commander manages, monitors and controls the performance of an enterprise Wi-Fi network. NOCs will find this module especially useful in speeding problem resolution, tuning network and application bandwidth, and for securing and administering specific access points.

Site Commander™: Networks that need to distribute authentication services to local areas can take advantage of Site Commander. Together with Global Commander, multiple networks can be centrally managed, while preserving local authentication services.

AP Commander™: AP Commander delivers multi-vendor support to secure and configure wireless access points, manage firmware, and generate historical audits and reports.

Scan & Block Manager™: Scan & Block Manager protects your network from virus and worm intrusions by ensuring any device entering the network has appropriate patch levels and anti-virus software.

Key Benefits of Roving Planet Commander Suite 3.0:

• Consistent management of WLAN Access Points: Broad multi-vendor support lets you consistently manage all your access points, regardless of manufacturer, from a single, centrally-located console.

• Authentication Management: Control who can have access to your network, implementing the right authentication type for different users, devices, or applications.

• Authorization Management: Decide what network resources are available to users once they are assigned access to the network.

• Guest Access Management: Provide site visitors secure access to appropriate resources, without manually re-architecting your network for each new visitor.

• Onboard RADIUS: Authenticate all users with built-in full RADIUS support, incorporating secure 802.1X authentication and key management, without incurring additional system costs.

• Time-based Controls: Quickly change policies for regularly occurring events, after hours, or for special occasions.

• Location-based Controls: Authorize where users can access the network, on a location or per-access point basis.

• Complete Audit Trail: Quickly detail your wireless network usage with correlated information to easily build customized reports.

Commander Suite 3.0 from Roving Planet manages and secures distributed Wi-Fi networks, simplifies authentication and access control, and provides correlated wireless LAN intelligence and executive reports, all from a single user console.
