April 19, 2005: Airspan Networks, Inc. announced recently its
self-installable, indoor WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE), known as the
EasyST, was demonstrated at the launch of Intel’s WiMAX system-on-a-chip. The
EasyST, which uses Intel Corporation’s Pro/Wireless 5116 broadband interface,
connects IP-enabled devices directly to WiMAX networks and can be installed
indoors by end users within minutes. Designed for the residential and small
enterprise markets, the device is said to be the world’s first integrated
voice and data WiMAX product, supporting two voice lines and an Ethernet
connection. It can also act as an 802.11 Wi-Fi access point.
Jonathan Paget, Chief Operating Officer of Airspan Networks,
said: “We are pleased to make this announcement, as it demonstrates our
leadership position in the WiMAX market. Indoor, self-installable CPEs are the
key to unlocking WiMAX’s potential.” Paul Senior, Vice President of
Marketing at Airspan Networks added: “This is an exciting event. Airspan and
Intel have been working together for over two years to bring WiMAX to the
market, and the EasyST is the product of our joint vision for an indoor,
self-installable WiMAX CPE that makes WiMAX a scaleable, mass market
proposition.” Airspan will commence trials of its AS.MAX family of base
stations and the self-installable Indoor EasyST with service providers in the
second quarter of 2005, and expects commercial network rollouts to begin in the
third quarter.
