Spectrum analyzer up to 50 GHz with wide dynamic range

The new high-end model R&S FSU50 complements the Spectrum Analyzer Family R&S FSU from Rohde & Schwarz. The R&S FSU50 has a frequency range from 20 Hz to 50 GHz and is ideal for a wide range of applications such as microwave, space travel and military applications. Even at 50 GHz, the R&S FSU50 still exhibits a very low displayed average noise level of -118 dBm at 10 Hz bandwidth, and thus features the widest dynamic range currently available. It offers an extensive scope of filter types with resolution bandwidths of up to 50 MHz and comprehensive measurement functions for precise power measurements even of wideband signals.

High-frequency performance is particularly important in the high-end range of test and measurement. With a 1 dB compression point of the input mixer of 22 dBm, a displayed average noise level of -142 dBm (at 10 Hz bandwidth and 2 GHz) or -118 dBm, and a third-order intercept point of typically 13 dBm (at 10 Hz bandwidth and 50 GHz), the R&S FSU50 offers maximum modulation capabilities.
Phase noise is extremely important for measurements on frequency-processing equipment or when searching for interference signals. The R&S FSU50 furnishes superb values both close to the carrier and at larger frequency offsets. At 10 MHz carrier offset, for example, it achieves -160 dBc (1 Hz).
The measurement accuracy of the R&S FSU50 is also extraordinary: In the frequency range of up to 3.6 GHz, it achieves a total measurement uncertainty of less than 0.3 dB; at 50 GHz, the value is still 3 dB without the customary peaking of the preselection filters.
In addition to common test routines such as TOI, OBW and CCDF, the R&S FSU50 provides a wide range of power-measurement functions for determining channel and adjacent-channel power. Channel width and spacing can either be selected according to predefined standards such as WCDMA or configured by the user. In conjunction with the RMS detector, these functions are ideal for precise and reproducible power measurements of wideband signals.
Like all instruments of the R&S FSU family, the R&S FSU50 uses the Embedded Windows XP operating system. A LAN interface for connecting to network services is standard and makes the use of additional cards unnecessary. Using the operating system's Remote Desktop function, the R&S FSU50 can be remote-controlled via LAN or modem without requiring any additional software.
In production applications, measurement speed has top priority. Shorter measurement times increase throughput and reduce costs for production test systems. With a measurement speed of up to 80 sweeps/s in manual operation and up to 70 sweeps/s in remote-control operation, the R&S FSU50 is currently the fastest high-end spectrum analyzer on the market.
All software options of the R&S FSU family can also be used with the R&S FSU50, which is now available from Rohde & Schwarz.
